3. Monument to the Victor, Belgrade
The Statue of the Victor is Belgrade’s most famous landmark, designed by Ivan Meštrović and erected in the year 1928. The Statue was erected to celebrate the Serbian victory over the Ottoman Empire during the First Balkan War, and over Austria and Hungary during the World War I. It is one of the most famous works of Ivan Meštrović. The famous monument holds a falcon that watches the Leviate for any new threats in one hand, and a sword of war to counter the threats, looking across the confluence of the Danube and the Sava rivers.
4. The Museum of Sarajevo
The museum houses the permanent exhibition of Sarajevo’s history during the Austro-Hungarian period, from 1878 to 1918. The chronologically arranged exhibits includes various exhibits and artefacts belonging to the First Bosnian Regiment that took part in the WWI. The museum is also famous for the portrayal of the fateful events of June 28 1914, wherein the heir to the Austrian throne, Archduke Franz-Ferdinand and his wife Sophie were assassinated by the self-proclaimed Bosnian-Serb revolutionary Gavrilo Princip.
5. Przemyśl Fortress, Poland
Przemyśl fortress was a series of military fortifications constructed by the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and saw extensive combat during World War I. The fortress was recaptured by the Austrian-German offensive in 1915, after the Russian army laid siege and captured the fortifications first. The fortress today, features various former forts including Salis Soglio, San Rideau, and Borek, and is a popular tourist destination in southeastern Poland.
